RAWR! Halloween 2012

So, halloween has come and gone. Due to hurricane Sandy, it was a miserable night weather wise, but nonetheless, it was such a superb night for my last year in high school. I thought, hey, it's my last year of being considered a child because of my age, so I was like, what the heck, I'm going trick-or-treating! AHA I know, nearly every house I went to asked me if I was too old for trick-or-treating. Naw! In the future, I can see myself as one of those parents dressing up with my kids and trick-or-treating with them! Don't want to embarrass them or anything, but I will always be a child at heart.

Anyways, being me, I really didn't want to dress in those clique halloween costumes you buy from a store. So just like every year, I improvised. Last year I was Katniss Everdeen (yeah, I'm a HUGE Hunger Games fan), so this year I wanted to wear something warm because of the wet weather, but I didn't want to wear my winter jacket. Using articles of clothing from my wardrobe, I decided to go as a wolf. Lucky for me, I own a Warrior Wolf SpiritHood, which made my costume so much more believable and super warm! I wore black leggings, a white loose top, a black wool blazer with gold hardware, my favourite wool scarf, black Hunter wellies and of course my SpiritHood. But, to finish off my outfit, I used a REAL fox tail I bought in Germany in March for about $15! Yeah, I'm sorry if that offends you, but just keep in mind that I did not kill the creature. I love fur, but I only buy ones that are cruelty free. Plus, keeping the tail is re-using parts that aren't being used for other purposes. I didn't really look like a true wolf, but I did sort of remind myself of Mr. Fox from Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl. I guess because I looked like a wolf with human clothing on!

I went trick-or-treating with 2 of my good friends, and then went for a little walk around my neighbourhood with some more friends while eating all the candy I accumulated. It doesn't sound that exciting, but I had a great time.

The excitement of dressing up and them begging for candy is just a concept that never cease to amuse me :)

Hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween!
God bless and keep safe :P

Tada! Yes, here's another look for my series if Halloween All Year Round! As one of my favourite styles, the army or military look has a very edgy or even very grungy feel! Using metal hardware, chunky articles of clothing and the classic dark tones of color such as the greens, browns, and blacks, I have attempted to create an outfit that inspires every girls inner kick-ass attitude to come out and say hello!

For a military look, its all about oversized, chunky items that consist of dark colours, such as the famous greens and kakis, as well as metal accents. Unlike a BAMF motorcyclist, this kind of look does not consist of many leather elements, due to the fact that army clothing was made for wear-and-tear. Leather accents did make an appearance in the accessories such as the shoes and purse, but leather jackets are not in order here because a military look is less structured than one of a motorcyclist. Cotton and softer, more comfortable materials are used because one must be confortable for a day out on the field ;)

Anyways, this outfit is considered more on the "casual" due to its more confortable, less structured appearance.

Hopefully you like! Happy Halloween!

Hello hello! Welcome! Ladies and gentleman. Alice in Wonderland!

For this years upcoming halloween, I decided to create everyday halloween outfits without the costume part. Here is my interpretation of Alice in Wonderland!

I decided to have 2 separate outfits with interchangeable accessories and shoes. The outfit on the left consists of a blue knitted jumper with a dramatic white collar. Dainty yet warm. Great for colder weather. But if you want something less heavy, I chose a cream blouse with a deck of cards pattern all over it. Sorta reminds me of the Queen of Hearts, does't it? I paired them with a dramatic pair of stripped jeans that I took inspiration from the twins in Alice in Wonderland; Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Now, for shoes, I found these adorable 'Alice' shoes that were actually designed to match Alice's personality. Perfect!

The second outfit was created for warmer weather and is more for that girly-girl type. I adore this dress so much! It reminds me of a modern day dress from the 50's; from the itty-bitty pleats in the skirt, to the fitted bodice! Anyways, i paired it with some cat slippers, taking inspiration from the famous cheshire cat, as well as a top hat from the Mad Hatter.

Using a red clutch with a heart embedded on it, you can get a little hint of the Queen of Hearts within each outfit as well! I also took the little rabbit into account and accessorized with a gold tone bunny necklace and ring.

I really do love these outfits because they do show my taste in fashion and clothing. I love dramatic colours mixed with prints! I also love reds, blues and gold tones together on one palette. It's very mesmerizing :)

Thankyou! And Happy Halloween!

I love the story of Little Red Ridding Hood, and with Halloween just around the corner, I thought, why don't I make an everyday outfit I could wear out based on one of my favourite fairy tale stories? And that's what I did. So here it is. These are some pieces that remind me of little red riding hood. I love the mysterious characteristic she plays off. Using darker colours such as black and the infamous red, I did just that. Using either the long or short black dress, shows more of an innocent or even mysterious quality that allow for the story to come to life in your wardrobe. Black shoes with gold tone accents, including the gold jewelry show class and bring a warm and modern feel to the outfit. For the purse, I chose something that was light and earthy. Something that sort of felt like a basket without the weave ;)

Enjoy to your hearts desire and let your imagination run free.

Yes, I do love me some of those collars. But, I wouldn't call it a trend for me, but more like an obsession. I am obsessed. They make my outfit a bit more dressed up, sophisticated, and it just helps cover me up more (yeah, I'm a bit insecure about showing skin on certain parts of my body).

Anyways, I've noticed that this collar trend has been going on recently with us teenage folk, but I have you know that collars have been here for years. Just like your eyebrows on your face, the collar frames your head and neck area. Dating back from Shakespearian times and even earlier than that, collars have been around as a fashion statement on various articles of clothing. The origin of today's shirt collars descend from the ruffle created by the drawstring at the neck of the medieval chemise ( a simple garment worn on the skin to protect clothing from sweat and body oils). But collars were most popular in the Elizabethan era with a collar known as a ruff. It was mostly a small fabric ruffle at the neck of the shirt or chemise and held in place with a drawstring. Even though they look nothing like todays collars that are mainly made for fashion, these collars served a purpose as well as a stylish garment. They helped with keeping sweat and body oils off of clothing that was worn daily and couldn't be washed that often. Instead, they made these ruffs detachable in order for it to be washed more often then the rest of their garments. Sort of neat, eh? Anyways, in the early sixteenth century, bands or falling bands were introduced. These bands were referred to the shirt neckband under a ruff. They are known as formal neckwear (usually worn by lawyers and upper classes) and take form in 2 long pieces of cloth that hung from the center of the neck down. Sort of like 2 white tongues hanging on the front of your shirt. Hehe, gross.

Now, back to the future. Collars have evolved so much throughout the ages and no one has even the slightest idea of how today’s collars came to be. Even though people wear collars for a sense of sophistication and trying to be in trend, I believe there is so much more to just wearing something just because everyone else is wearing. Knowing where and when certain articles of clothing originated from help one to appreciate how much fashion as evolved from the past to today. I know there are so many people who will disagree with me, but fashion is an art, and knowing the history of how fashion came to be will help build a grand portfolio of ideas, experience and such a wide range of knowledge! It helps SO much with coordination and balancing history with this art form. And if you love fashion (or even history, for that matter) as much as I do, you'll understand where I'm coming from.

Plus, in order to be on trend or even a head of the game, you will have to do some research of past fashion. And I don't mean fashion from last year; I mean fashion from hundreds to even thousands of years ago. Who knows? You may learn about how your favourite dress evolved from thousands of eras ago to now.

Hopefully my little history lesson wasn’t too boring, but some people have to understand what it is to be an individual and educate them on what interests them the most. For me, that would be MY own style sense J

Thankyou! TTFN!
